"And don't criticize what you can't understand"

I've never been a Dylan fan, but when I saw Watchmen, I couldn't believe what I had been missing out on.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

And they said they found a tape in the car. . .

For the first time in about 10 years, I heard Eminem's "Stan." One of his more acclaimed songs, Stan depicts an obsessed fanboy who, when he doesn't hear back from Slim, decides his life isn't worth it and takes with him his life and unborn child. An ambitious premise for a song, the song chillingly takes you into in the life of Stan as he deteriorates into a parody of his former self.

There's no sense in me talking about it, be prepared for the "ride" of a lifetime.

It's not what you hear. . .

This will be my second blog (the first can be found at ejstern88.blogspot.com). While my other blog is more about my general thoughts (though it's pretty much a world cup blog atm :P) this will be music-centric . If you asked me the classic blind-versus-deaf question, I'd choose blindness over deafness, just for the sheer fact I would never be able to enjoy music again.

Music is not meant to be heard. It is meant to be felt (hence the title Synesthesia). And so I bid your mind and body safe passage on this journey. Godspeed.

"There's no dark side of the moon, really. . . Matter of fact it's all dark."
Any Colour You Like/Brain Damage/Eclipse - Pink Floyd

There's so much to say about this entire album, yet it's impossible to put it into words. No analysis, just raw emotion, passion, transcendence. That, my friends, is how music should be.
